Scarf Shop Styles: Cowl

Scarves have been popular for years.  There are so many styles and they can keep you warm, accessorize an outfit, or both!  Over the next few weeks we'll take a look at some of the different scarf styles.

A cowl neck scarf can come in single, double, or triple loop lengths.  Check out this red one on Selena Gomez.  She can wear it so many ways!  Open, looped and draped, or tight against the neck to keep the chill out.

This scarf, available in the Marion's Mittens scarf shop, is just a single loop.  Think of it as a turtleneck minus the rest of the sweater!  The single loop style helps eliminate bulk while keeping your warm and stylish.  It would look great with gray!

Product Spotlight: Cross Stitch Crafts

The Marion's Mittens shop carries more than mittens or even hand-knit items.  There are some sewn and cross stitched crafts as well.

Check out this folk art wall hanging.  It's a very cute farm scene.  I love the animals, especially the sheep and the ducks in the pond!

I love these cute ponies so much I'm tempted to keep them myself, but I already have two pillows with similar pony designs.  These self-framed ponies would make a great group hanging.

Who doesn't need a "welcome home" sign?  This one is red and comes unframed.  But how great would it look in a fancy frame?

Choosing Yarn for Mittens

The number of yarn choices can be overwhelming. Marion prefers Simply Soft yarn by Caron.  Why is this Marion's yarn of choice? Read on to find out!

Durability
This particular brand of yarn is 100% acrylic. A synthetic fiber can better hold up to wearing and washing than a natural fiber like wool. That's why Marion's mittens are great for kids. The mittens retain their shape after lots of wear. The bright colors don't fade. There may be some fuzzing or pilling over time but it can be gently removed as you would lint from a sweater.

Value
Simply Soft is one of the less expensive yarns on the shelf at craft stores. (And Marion never buys anything without a coupon!) That doesn't mean it's not good quality; the yarn doesn't split when knitted and holds up over time. Marion's mittens keep your hands warm in reasonably cold weather because they are tightly knitted on small needles. When I was a kid I would double up on mittens so that my hands would stay dry while playing in the snow. They also stay a little warmer in extreme cold!

Color Choices
This brand comes in a wide variety of colors plus some variegated shades that aren't listed on the website. Marion can make your mittens in just about any of Caron's colors.
