2014 Recap - What Happened With Marion's Mittens This Year

2014 may be almost over but mitten season is still in full swing! If January 2015 is anything like the last one, the cold weather will encourage people to keep buying mittens for a while yet.

Still, as we come to the end of one year, I always like to reflect on its accomplishments before moving on to the next year!

Here are some of the items that were on my 2014 to-do list for Marion's Mittens:

  • Sell baby mittens by age/size rather than grouped together - DONE
  • Make hats to match baby mittens - not done
  • Buy more sparkle yarn - DONE (went crazy at an AC Moore outlet store!)
  • Add pages to blog for media and "big" customers - DONE & DONE
  • New photos and separate listings for scarves - DONE
  • Offer monogramming - not done
  • Felt Halloween faces/paws on mini mittens - DONE
  • Offer mittens in a little kids' size (age 3-4) with thumbs - DONE
  • Design and order holiday postcards for Nov/Dec orders - DONE
  • Improve craft fair display - DONE
  • Knit animal faces into kids' mittens - not done
  • Consider fingerless mittens - not done
  • Headbands with crochet flowers - not done
  • Create product videos - not done
  • New merchandise photography - DONE (mostly)
  • Update titles and tags on Etsy to optimize SEO - DONE
  • Start an Instagram - DONE
  • Blog 2x per week from October to December - DONE
  • Ramp up efforts on Facebook (1x per day) and Twitter (4x per day) - DONE & DONE
  • Add listings to Craftori and Pinterest - DONE & DONE
  • Put business cards in local businesses - DONE (although I could have done a lot more)
  • Participate in Etsy teams - DONE
  • Listen to Convo Me podcasts - DONE

Wow! It's amazing what you can accomplish just by writing a few things in a notebook. I took some time to write out these goals and they turned into a to-do list that I did fairly well on. Especially when you compare it to last year's accomplishments!

mittens for ages 3-4 years
Most of the things I didn't get done were simply because of a lack of time. Offering mittens for ages 3-4 took up most of the time I had available to knit, so I wasn't able to begin designing and producing new products. I did well on the social media and marketing aspects because they feel like an extension of my day job - so they come easily to me.

Who knew mittens could be so much fun? It's been amazing watching my Etsy shop grow over the last two years. I'm looking forward to see where it takes me in 2015.

My next post will contain a to-do list for 2015. Spoiler alert - most of the items that I didn't get to in 2014 will be shifting over for 2015!
