Our knitting pattern for thumbless baby mittens had a makeover for 2018! It's been tweaked since Marion started knitting with it in the 1940s.

The pattern includes:

• Instructions for knitting thumbless mittens in the round using double pointed needles
• Size chart for knitting mittens in four sizes (preemie, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, and 18-24 months)
• Bonus details to crochet a string to connect the pair of mittens

Knit Messy Bun Hats & Headbands

All of our knitted headbands are on sale this week. One style is wide enough to work as a messy bun hat or a neck cowl. Talk about a multitasker!

Top Colors of 2017 - Bestselling Knit Picks

As 2017 comes to a close I thought I'd share the top three (well, six!) colors for mittens in 2017.

#1 - Black

Last year's leader, red, was displaced by classic black this year.

#2 - Red, Soft Pink, and Watermelon

Second place was a three way tie between some warm colors!

#3 - Sunshine and Royal Blue

In third place is another tie! Sunshine wasn't as possible as it was in years past (looks like people are moving on from LEGO-themed Halloween costumes) but still sold several pairs.

With a vibrant purple being selected as Pantone's color of the year for 2018, I'm excited to see if people will still prefer classic black and red or if some brighter colors will edge those out to be best sellers.

Did you know we make our mittens in at least 50 different colors? There's bound to be one you'll like. :)

Marion's Mittens is Five!

Wow, I can't believe Marion's Mittens on Etsy turned five this year! It all started with a visit to Marion on an October day when she asked me to sell some mittens for her. I don’t think either of us imagined we’d come this far.

Handy dish towels hang from crochet top that fastens with an upcycled button. These are full dish towels with a crochet hanger down the middle. The dish towels are the same on the front and back.

We recently started knitting baby hats from 100% superfine merino wool. They are luxuriously soft and made from natural fibers! Sets are available in white for preemies and newborns. They make wonderful new baby gifts.

Ety's New Shop Layout - Marion's Mittens Handmade Shop Updates

Etsy rolled out a new shop format in April 2016. Now you can scroll down the page and see all of a shop's elements - basic info, a sampling of listings, and shop details - without clicking to another page. It also means that the experience on phones and computers will be similar for shoppers.

I have arranged some of our popular items by season on the homepage. Most people will not be shopping for mittens during the summer months, so I have featured pompom garlands, baby afghans (great gifts for any season!), pompom keyrings, and baby mittens near the top.

Overall I'm happy with the changes that Etsy has made. The pictures are larger and so it's easier to see each item.
