The Mittens

Marion's Mittens are knitted by hand from acrylic yarn. Once, at a craft fair, a fellow vendor mentioned that I could easily make mittens by machine and sell them for more money. But I think that handmade is so much more special.

The Pattern

Marion adapted this pattern and has been using it since the 1940s. The mittens are knitted in the round using four double-pointed needles. An adult pair takes 1-2 days to complete and the tiniest mini mittens can be completed in a few hours. The pattern for the thumbless mini mittens is available for download.

The Yarn

We use Caron Simply Soft yarn. This acrylic yarn is so soft! It comes in a wide range of colors and is machine washable.

We occasionally make mittens out of wool or alpaca fiber. These special fibers require special care.

The Sizes

Our mittens come in two sizes for adults - small and regular.

For kids, we regularly offer sizes for ages 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. A larger pair for ages 9-10 is available.

For babies, we have pairs for 6-12 months, 12-18 months, and 18-24 months.
